Zionsville Greek Orthodox Palomino Ballroom Wedding // Cara & Nick
“Been more smiles than there's been tears, been more good than bad years. Ain’t it crazy baby how we got here, and it all started with a beer.” // Frankie Ballard
Opa!! I’m so excited to share with you guys Cara + Nick’s big, fat, fun, crazy, super fun, and awesome Greek wedding! It was so cool to be part of this interesting ceremony for this duo. I loved all of the traditions of Cara + Nick’s Greek Orthodox wedding ceremony. I had never photographed a Greek Orthodox wedding but I was thrilled and honored to be at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox church in Carmel last Saturday. We had some undesirable rain up until the end of the ceremony but once the ceremony commenced the rain cleared, the sun came out, the sky was blue and it was a gorgeous evening from then on out! The weather here in Indiana this spring has definitely given me a run for my money with all of it’s ups and downs but we’ve made it work every time!!
Cara + Nick were surrounded by amazing friends and family from all over the United States and Worldwide! Intertwining Nick’s rich Greek culture with both of their love for friends, family, and a good time the wedding resulted in a wonderful event with smiles, laughter, and happy tears. So pour a shot of Mystique and cheer OPA because it’s about to get real Greek up in here on the Team JSP blog!
Cara struggled with figuring out a color palette for the wedding day. She knew the church had ornate painted ceilings and walls and she wanted to make sure that whatever she chose didn’t clash with the beauty of the church. During our conversations I suggested a vibrant blue with champagne and gold. I’m glad I did because that’s pretty much the palate she went with! The vibrant blue in the bridesmaids dresses and other accents not only reminded me of Greece but it also matched beautifully with the church’s decor.
Ring shot on point!
Cara chose to bring on the full JSP team for her big day, including Ashley on hair and makeup! My favorite part about my brides using my team for hair and makeup (aside from getting to spend time with my best friend!) is that I know that Ashley takes into consideration my photographic style and timeline organization when doing hair. PLUS, she’s always on time. At Cara’s wedding we were AN HOUR ahead of schedule! It was in-sane!
Also, how cute are these little wine glasses Cara and all of her gals had in the prep suite! They even all coordinated with the colors of their outfits!
Once we arrived at the church Cara was assisted by her mother and bridesmaids to get her gorgeous David Tutera dress on. Beading all down the front and back, it was just stunning. Not to mention this window light is on point.
Nick didn’t look too shabby either!!
I’ve seen a lot of beautiful churches but the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox church had to be one of my favorites so far!! All of the beautiful painted murals and the ceiling... well it was just a dream to say the least!!
Okay, now y’all are probably going to make fun of me. Cara was kind of chuckling on the wedding day but one of my absolute favorite things about their wedding ceremony was these bloody crowns! They’re so not what I expected at any point in this and I absolutely loved them! I took so many pictures of them and obviously captured the opening photo from this blog post with them. Poor Cara + Nick had to think I was a crazy person. But I just loved them!
Oh my goodness! Just check out these flowers from Oberer’s in Carmel! I usually find it difficult to incorporate blue into a bouquet because it’s not a typical flower color. But Oberer’s did a fabulous job incorporating blue tropical flowers into Cara’s teardrop bouquet!
So I gotta give another little shout out to muh girl! Aside from the things I said earlier abut Ashley, the most important thing is she’s amazing at what she does and always delivers a stellar product! Cara’s hair looked gorgeous with a braided back up-do tucked into a little bun! Heart eyes for DAYYYYSSSS.
Okay, prepare yourselves for some ceremony photos y’all!! I know it’s not typical that I show a lot of ceremony photos but this one was so unique with so many little traditions it was hard to pick just one or two!!
Man, these archways at the church. were just my favorite thing ever. I loved using them for the arches themselves but also for the covered porch aspect during the rain!
Also, at the Palomino Ballroom... HORSES!
The bridesmaids attire was so beautiful! I loved the vibrant blue dresses and each bridesmaids dress looked different but still fit so well together! Not to mention all of these ladies are adorable!
And the new winner for NAILING the fun/crazy/party shot goes toooooooo... THE KOLLIAS WEDDING PARTY!! These guys were so great! Also, the groomsmen were killin’ me with this walking photo!
After I wrapped up with the wedding party I came inside The Palomino Ballroom to get some awesome detail shots of the reception space. I loved Cara’s lanterns and plates as table numbers. But my favorite thing about The Palomino Ballroom is the big open window with all of the natural light pouring into the space! It’s just fabulous!
After everyone was shuffled back inside from photos and cocktails the reception began. We dined on a wonderful meal provided by The Palomino Ballroom (I’m still having dreams about that chicken!) And then the reception began. Cara + Nick’s first dance was absolutely beautiful! It was obvious they were having a fun time together just being in the moment.
The parent dances were great too. Cara’s dad surprised her during their dance and the song changed, he pulled out two catchers mitts and they played toss on the dance floor as a reminder of his days coaching her when she was young.
The night continued with dancing, drinking, and laughter but before I left I had to capture one amazingly hilarious moment with my couple...
Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you... THE CHAMBONG!
My clients are seriously the coolest.
Cara + Nick, thank you both SO much for having me on your special day. It was such an honor to document your memories. You two were so laid back and fun, I just had so much fun working with you. Thank you also to the Kollias and Lemmon family for hosting such a great event and being so welcoming to myself and my team. It was great being with you and your families and documenting memories I know everyone will cherish for years to come! And to the newlyweds, I look forward to watching your lives grow (probably with more dogs... and grand babies or your parents will kill you) but also watching your love grow as you make many more memories together. I just hope I’m able to document as many of them as I can for you. Thank you all so much, it was a pleasure to spend the day with you!
