Indianapolis Butler University Holcomb Gardens Couples & Family Session // Rush-Harris Family

"Where there is love, there is life." // Mahatma Ghandi

I had so much fun spending time and photographing Lindsey & Katie for their engagement/couples/family session a few weeks ago at Holcomb Gardens on the Butler University Campus! When Lindsey & Katie approached me to photograph their wedding reception they saw that all of my packages included an engagement session. When they told me they had already eloped in 2017 they weren't sure if they needed an "engagement session" per se because technically they were no longer engaged! But I explained to them the importance of a portrait session prior to the wedding day so we can get to know each other and meet up. They opted to do a family/couples session and I'm so glad they did! It was so great getting to know their little family and hanging out with them before the wedding. And despite the Indiana weather's BEST efforts we were still able to squeeze something in prior to the reception with a beautiful sunset and temperatures that somewhat resembled Spring time!

Lindsey & Katie met at St. Francis Hospital about 4 years ago. Lindsey was working as a Physician's Assistant in Cardiac Surgery and Katie as Social Worker. Katie's Step-Father was going in for heart surgery and Lindsey assisted on his surgery... she even held his heart in her hands! While it's pretty hard to go backwards from that they started as friends. Soon enough friends grew to more and now here we are!

Despite the fact that both Katie & Lindsey thought that getting engaged around the holidays was pretty cheesy Katie decided to switch out was was to be a fashion ring for Lindsey for Christmas to an engagement ring, Katie said she thinks it's the only time she was able to keep a secret from Lindsey! Needless to say Lindsey was shocked, obviously she said "yes", and the rest is history!

So guys, gals, and all of my non-binary pals (thanks Thomas Sanders for that one!) let me introduce to you Lindsey, Katie, Addi, & Elle... just about the cutest little family to grace my lenses.

Indianapolis Spring Golf Club Wedding // Kathleen & Andrew

"Fill my heart with song, and let me sing for ever more." // Frank Sinatra

So I’m callin’ myself out here, I’ve been slacking on the blog posts. I know. I know. I’m sorry!! Please don’t hate me y’all! But lately, with going back to work full time my work load has become between writing blog posts or spending time with that adorable ginger child of mine! I’m sure you guys understand why I’ve chosen that adorable ginger child! That being said, I’m trying to get back on the old blogging horse and get back at it! I have too many amazing weddings and too many amazing clients this year to NOT share them with everyone! So I say we start off right away with Kathleen & Andrew’s wedding from *GASP* like three months ago! (Bad Jackie! Bad!)

Kathleen & Andrew met back in December of 2008. Well at least that’s when they had their first real conversation! They had seen each other in passing before then. Recently they’ve moved themselves, their two dogs, and big fluffy cat all the way from Missouri here to Indiana where they’ve put down roots in the Greenwood area. The sweet couple and I bonded over a mutual love of all things nerdy and binge watching on Netflix. (My two favorite things!) Kathleen even had a “From Muggle to Mrs.” Harry Potter themed bachelorette weekend at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter! Super cool, and I’m super jealous!

It was wonderful to watch almost 10 years in the making come to life as these two tied the knot at Valle Vista Golf Club back in May. The wedding was filled with fun and laughter from all of their friends and family.

I Believe In... The Perfect Wedding Day Timeline // Here's How To Do It

“All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us.” - Gandalf the Grey

Being punctual is something almost everyone strives to be. No one wants to be late to work or their friend’s party. But no one especially wants to be late to their own wedding. So why is it that all too often on wedding days things run behind? Some say it’s the nature of the beast. There are so many different friends, guests, vendors, and moving parts that things are bound to run a little bit behind. And while this is true I believe there is one way that you can herd the cats, drink your champagne, and still be on time. You can have fun and still stay organized with one thing.

The Perfect Wedding Day Timeline

Indianapolis Willows on Westfield Garden Inspired Wedding // Kaitlin & Nick

“And I'm here wishing you could stay a little longer.” // Brothers Osborne

Over Fourth of July weekend I was lucky to photograph not only one, but two, weddings! Kaitlin + Nick’s garden inspired wedding at The Lodge at The Willows on Westfield was absolutely perfect. A mantle dripping in candles, candelabras, greenery, and flower crowns. I am absolutely obsessed with flower crowns, so when I walked into Kaitlin’s bridal suite and saw that her and most of her bridesmaids were wearing flower crowns I’m pretty sure I squealed a little.

Kaitlin + Nick are a delightfully fun and sweet couple that met in the recreation center while attending Ball State University. (Gotta love my fellow BSU alums! Chirp Chirp!) Over five years later the two of them can now be found at home with their cats typically binge watching television series’ on Netflix. These people, ladies and gentlemen, are my kind of people. I mean they admitted was one of their favorite things to do is pizza. Pizza is life people. LIFE!

It was wonderful to spend the day with people who are so wonderfully chill. The day was so relaxed and easy-going. Such a calm way to spend the day working! Also, did I mention they were sweet?! Cause they SO are!

Indianapolis Mavris Colorful and Elegant Wedding // Heather & Obi

“So don’t ever think I need more. I’ve got the one to live for. No one else will do, I’m tellin’ you. Just put your heart in my hands and I promise it won’t get broken.” // Nathan Sykes

Last Friday’s wedding was definitely one for the books! I spent the day at The Mavris Arts + Event Center in Downtown Indianapolis with two absolutely amazing, loving, and sweet people. Heather + Obi tied the knot on a gorgeous day in July surrounded by wonderful friends and family and backed by a stellar vendor team.

The two of them, technically, met on the bus at Purdue. Heather was immediately drawn to the cute guy with dimples. However it wasn’t until after formally meeting at a party through mutual friends that their relationship blossomed, grew, and flourished through their common sweet demeanor and faith in God. Years later we were brought to this wonderful day and I am just so happy I was able to be part of it! Trust me you guys... this wedding has got me all heart eyes everywhere!! I can’t even stop thinking about it all!!

Downtown Indianapolis Engagement Session // Elizabeth & Kevin

“One cannot think well, love well, sleep well if one has not dined well.” // Virginia Woolf

Back in January I participated in the Indianapolis Bride Expo bridal show. It was a fun two days of meeting amazing brides who were so excited to plan their special day. As with any bridal show I run a raffle for a complimentary engagement session! When I pulled names out of the proverbial hat, Elizabeth + Kevin were the lucky winners and I’m so glad they were! A couple weeks ago I had the very distinct pleasure of spending a Saturday with them to not only photograph and document their love but I also was able to learn more about who they are as a couple.

During our time together I learned so many things. I learned that they met through mutual friends, but ultimately on the dance floor. ;) I learned that their first date was at The Wellington Pub in Broad Ripple. That Elizabeth celebrated her birthday at Bluebeard while Kevin celebrated his at Bakersfield. I learned that while Kevin is a little more picky when it comes to food, Elizabeth’s foodie heart has opened him up to new things. I learned that they love trying new restaurants and that apparently The Eagle and Ball and Biscuit on Mass Ave are DEFINITELY worth a try. I learned she was a school teacher and he a tennis coach. They love to travel, drink wine, and spend nights outside at home with their adorable pup Flynn. This is why I love what I do. Before walking into their engagement session I knew nothing about them but two names and a wedding date. Now I know so much more and I feel like I made friends with some incredible people. And I think our tour d’Indianapolis engagement session was better because of it.

Downtown Indianapolis Regions Tower Fall Wedding // Lindsey & Dave

“Tell me that you want me, and I’ll be yours completely, for better or for worse.” // Kodaline

My oh my, oh my, oh my! This wedding ladies and gentleman. This wedding is definitely up there in like top five favorite weddings from last year. Not to say anything bad AT ALL about my other weddings from 2015. I love each and every one of my clients. They are all amazing and beautiful people committing themselves to each other for life. That in itself is the reason why I do what I do. To tell love stories. But when you have a super fun loving couple paired with an equally fun wedding party, more time for photos than I’ve ever known what to do with, delicious food, heart warming toasts, a sunset, AND a beautiful rainbow come together into one amazing wedding. Well it’s every photographers dream.

Lindsey + Dave are possibly some of the sweetest people I’ve ever met! One of my favorite things is when my clients become my friends and I feel like Lindsey and I are sisters from another mister! (P.S. She sends the best snapchats of usually one of three things: her/her & Dave at a sporting event, her super sweet pup, or whatever alcoholic drink she is enjoying at that time. Needless to say, I love her and her snaps.) But I digress... Lindsey and Dave tied the knot on what appeared to be a cold, windy, overcast day in our beautiful capital city Indianapolis. On the fifth floor of the Region’s Tower they exchanged vows, shed tears, danced, laughed, and had the best of times celebrating their nuptials. By the end of their ceremony we thought we weren’t going to have much more than some orangey clouds in the distance for a sunset. But low and behold the clouds cleared and not only did we have an exquisite sunset but a rainbow! A flippin’ rainbow y’all. It was great. Aside from all of the amazing things any photographer would dream of having on a wedding day, I was absolutely honored to be there and witness and document their memories. I feel lucky to have met and been chosen by them and working with them has truly reminded me of why I love what I do.

Building Confidence & Getting Inspired

“This is my fight song, take back my life song, prove I’m alright song... And I don’t care if anybody else believes, cause I’ve still got a lot of fight left in me.” // Rachel Platten

In all corners of the world there are people lacking confidence in the all sorts of different ways. We all struggle with confidence. And anyone who tells you otherwise is a liar (well at least in my opinion). In a world where all put our best selves forward on social media it’s hard to believe that some people are struggling with confidence or struggling at all. But I assure you they are.

2015 Favorite Images of the Year // Wedding Portraits

“Goin' to the chapel and we're, gonna get married.” // The Dixie Cups

The wedding day is a crazy day of fun. Mostly photojournalistic with moments and documentation but I do have time to create some portraits for people. Of the bride, the groom, the wedding party, all of the people involved. These are the chances I get to be creative with the people involved on the wedding day. I love working with real people which creates challeneges but that's the best part! Most of these photos are bride and groom individuals with a few wedding party photos that I just love.
