joan + skip :: cleveland wedding
When I photographed Joan + Jim's proposal I knew that this wedding was going to be wonderful! Joan + Jim have been long time friends of ours, of course, we were more than thrilled when they asked us to photograph their engagement photos + wedding!
They had an outdoor gazebo wedding in the small town of Vermillion, OH, just outside of Cleveland. Then the reception moved to a lodge-styled reception venue on Lake Erie, complete with a beautiful view of the water. Choosing just 11 photos of this wedding was definitely not easy.
This is one of my favorite photos of the two of them. I loved the cute little fire deptartment right next to the adorable park with the gazebo they shared their vows.
Check out the rest of their amazingly fun wedding!
We began the day at Skip's parents house. They both got ready + had a relaxed lunch while doing so. While people were getting ready we got together and did some fun bridal party photos. These guys were way too much fun. I love how they look like a gang of suave businessmen.
I loved how his parents house was in the country off of a less than traveled road. This made middle of the street photos very easy.
These ladies were so much fun, enjoying some morning mimosas in custom bottles that had their names on the bottles, plus purple striped straws. I love their smiles + laughter. Contaigous I tell you, contaigous.
I told you I had a love affair with the fire department. So small town. I loved it! I guess the bride + groom were pretty cute too. Hehe.
Joan has a super rad back tattoo that I could not let it go un-photographed. I think this shows off her + Skip super rock n' roll attitude + that she don't take no crap from NO ONE!
Remember that lodge-style reception venue I mentioned before? TA-DA!! I loved the look of this venue, especially after they had it all decorated. It was a beautifully large space with plenty of room for tables for their 200+ guests!
Skip is a beer brewer. They're both beer enthusiasts. So naturally instead of standard table numbers, they did their tables named after all of the different beers that they have enjoyed during their time together. This is just one of the many tables with their unique table signs. Not to mention the twinkling centerpiece, hand-made by Joan's mother.
Knowing Joan + Jim's personalities their announcement + entrance to their reception was not even a little bit surprising. High-fives through the crowd of friends and family is only a natural way for them to take their place at the head table. Loved this!
Their first dance was a touching + lovely moment to a very un-conventional song. After attending + photographing as many weddings as I have, I have yet to see anyone do their first dance to the more upbeat, Jamaican styled song "Say Hey (I love you)" by Michael Franti. But it super fit them + their big, alive personalities. Not to mention that their band took the time to learn the song + perform it live for their first dance added another super personal touch.
Joan + Skip hired the amazingly fun + awesome Indianapolis cover band My Yellow Rickshaw. With a tag line of "Going where no cover band has gone before!" naturally they were so much fun + kept the party going all night!
Joan + Skip had such a wonderfully fun wedding! Both Matt + I truly enjoyed spending our time photographing the event. Not to mention being there on the day our close friends committed themselves to each other. We wish the best for them + have enjoyed every moment of their friendship!
