Indianapolis Willows on Westfield Garden Inspired Wedding // Kaitlin & Nick
“And I'm here wishing you could stay a little longer.” // Brothers Osborne
Over Fourth of July weekend I was lucky to photograph not only one, but two, weddings! Kaitlin + Nick’s garden inspired wedding at The Lodge at The Willows on Westfield was absolutely perfect. A mantle dripping in candles, candelabras, greenery, and flower crowns. I am absolutely obsessed with flower crowns, so when I walked into Kaitlin’s bridal suite and saw that her and most of her bridesmaids were wearing flower crowns I’m pretty sure I squealed a little.
Kaitlin + Nick are a delightfully fun and sweet couple that met in the recreation center while attending Ball State University. (Gotta love my fellow BSU alums! Chirp Chirp!) Over five years later the two of them can now be found at home with their cats typically binge watching television series’ on Netflix. These people, ladies and gentlemen, are my kind of people. I mean they admitted was one of their favorite things to do is pizza. Pizza is life people. LIFE!
It was wonderful to spend the day with people who are so wonderfully chill. The day was so relaxed and easy-going. Such a calm way to spend the day working! Also, did I mention they were sweet?! Cause they SO are!
I’ll say it once and I’ll say it again, my favorite bridal shoes are most definitely Blue by Besty Johnson. Maybe it’s Betsy’s colorful quirkiness that I love or maybe it’s that all the shoes have a blue bottom and a heart on them. Maybe it’s that they come in a sparkly blue box! I don’t know but I LOVE THEM! So when Kaitlin pulled these shoes out I said, “Oh my goodness, Betsy Johnson has my favorite bridal shoes! My second favorite is Bagdley Mischka!” That’s when she pulled out her rehearsal dinner/first runner up bridal shoes. And what brand were they? Bagdley Mischka of course! I think Kaitlin and I have some sort of shoe connection... I’m pretty sure. Also, Kaitlin rocked those four inch Betsey Johnson heels ALL. NIGHT. She did not take them off or change into anything else the whole day. Super star bride.
All of Kaitlin’s other details were wonderful as well. I loved her ring a mix of yellow gold and white gold. Mixed metals make me happy inside. Whether intentionally or not their reception seemed inspired by her ring with silver table linens and candelabras but accented with a brushed gold cake and gifts.
Obsessed with these wine glasses that Kaitlin had for all of her bridesmaids!
The bride getting dressed surrounded by her bridesmaids and family are some of my favorite portraits of the day. I mean, I know I say that a lot. “This is my favorite part of the day.... no wait this is my favorite part of the day... no wait this is my favorite part of the day!!” The truth is I love all parts of the wedding day. But when the bride is surrounded by all her friends and her mother while she's putting on one of the most important dresses of her life (and likely most expensive one), it’s just a beautiful moment.
One of Kaitlin’s bridesmaids wanted to gift to Kaitlin in the same way Kaitlin gifted her on her wedding day, by giving her a bracelet to wear. It was a sweet moment and they both started crying. Not to mention her mom helping her with her necklace!
When Kaitlin + Nick finally met up for their first look at The Willows I could tell it was a moment of relief for both of them. They had been nervous up until that point but once they got together their tension eased and they were able to relax and have portraits together.
The garden area at The Willows is a great location for portraits! There are tall grasses, flowers, water, and a gorgeous pergola for a ceremony area.
This flower crown!! Makes me all sorts of happy inside. I would have spent forever photographing it from all sorts of different angles but I knew I needed to move along. Dang wedding schedules!!! Either way, look at how beautiful Kaitlin looks!! And those florals! Gahh!!!! Linda’s Petals & Lace did an amazing job!
Kaitlin wasn’t the only one looking good that day. Nick looked super sharp in his navy tux and bow tie. Very suave.
This pergola though...
I love this area for portraits of the wedding party. As long as the wedding party isn’t TOO big. Those pillars can get in the way if the party is too big and we had to squeeze this group together! Luckily, they didn’t mind getting too close!!
If you haven’t been to Union Chapel Methodist Church you’re missing out on the sweetest little church I’ve ever seen. Simple and sweet. Just like Kaitlin and Nick’s ceremony. It was perfect for them.
I loved the outside of the church too! And this cathedral veil! If I could have all cathedral veils all the time I would be the happiest photographer ever! That and mantilla veils with lace around the trim!!
The bridesmaids looked just as lovely as the bride in their blush dresses and their gorgeous florals!!
The reception at The Willows was set up so beautifully! I loved the whole décor!
Every couple should run through a human tunnel when entering into their reception. Just sayin'.
Heavenly Sweets always does a fantastic job when doing cakes. They’re possibly one of my favorites. I’m obsessed with the gold hand painted center layer. Also the dots on the top remind me a little of an art deco feel. Love it. I took way too many photos of this cake! But not only did it LOOK amazing, it tasted amazing too! I don't usually get the opportunity to eat cake at my clients' weddings, but I was able to snag a slice here and mmmmm... it was so good.
First dances are always a moment that I’m a sucker for. Usually Stephanie is a bucket of tears by the end of every first dance and parent dances. I’m hit or miss. But I love them all the same!!
They ended the night walking through a tunnel of sparklers surrounded by their friends and family.
The two of them were gracious enough to take a few sparkler photos with me before they left. Even though Kaitlin admitted to being a bit afraid of fireworks she willingly held one to take some photos and capture this aweosme light art!
Thank you so much Kaitlin, Nick, and their families for having me spend your special day with you. It was so great to have a wonderful, relaxing, wedding and spend the day with you two. I wish you both many years of fun, happiness, and all the Netflix nights your couch and cats can handle!!
