Indianapolis Mass Ave + Canal Engagement Session // Kelly & Brian
“Sleep late, have fun, get wild, drink whiskey, and drive fast on empty streets with nothing in mind except falling in love and not getting arrested.” // Hunter S. Thompson
A couple of weeks ago I had the pleasure of photographing another engagement session winner from the Indianapolis Bride Expo! It was a wonderful evening hanging out with Kelly + Brian and their sweet pup, Chewie, and documenting their love! We went around to lots of fun places in Downtown Indianapolis. After a swipe right on Tinder turned into a date turned into a relationship this couple can definitely be considered a dating app success story!
While visiting Kelly’s hometown of Muskegon, MI the duo took Chewie for a walk in the woods along Lake Michigan. While on their walk they decided a selfie with the Chewster (that’s my new nickname for him...) was definite must. After they kneeled down to snap a photo with their dog Kelly stood up and Brian stayed on one knee. Kelly’s emotions were pretty apparent from the start. Out of shock and excitement she started crying and once Brian began to speak she immediately said, “I DO!” She didn’t even let the poor guy finish! One can just hope he finally got to say what he wanted to once the ring was on and all of the emotions died down!
Although their life together began downtown Kelly and Brian can now be found shopping for things for their new home in Broad Ripple, spending time with Chewie, or sitting on their deck dreaming of Lake Michigan, Nashville, Ireland, and cocktails!
Since their first date was a Ralston’s off Mass Ave it only seemed fitting that we started there for their photos. We wanted to capture a little bit of where it all began. It was a super cool restaurant and bar with an outdoor patio and semi-indoor eating area as well. I will say, with all of these downtown Indianapolis engagement sessions I’ve been photographing lately I now have TONS of cool places I want to check out, and this one is definitely on my list now!
After we finished up a Ralston’s we adventured behind some of the buildings in some of the brick and ivy covered back alleys of Mass Ave. There are definitely some nooks and crannies on Mass Ave that most people never see... these are my favorite places. Which was convenient because Kelly said she loved these back alleys because they were how her and Brian used to walk to Mass Ave from their apartment! Win-win!
After we finished up at Mass Ave we made our way over to their friend’s house near the canal where he had a sweet view of the city and an equally sweet courtyard with access to the canal. I told him I had my bags packed and I was moving in tomorrow. (Just kidding... kind of. ;) ) We also did a quick costume change. Kelly, that blue shirt and those wedges are stinking adorable!
This last photo is one of my favorites. I’ve always loved the canal and this bridge but never really knew how to get the bridge into the photos how I wanted. Then boom! Lightbulb! And then this photo happened. It’s nothing amazing or crazy unique. But I love it. It’s definitely one of my favorites from the session!
Thank you so much Kelly + Brian for trusting me to document your engagement session! It was such a blast hanging out with you, getting to know you, and lovin’ on your sweet goldendoodle. I look forward to working with you more and documenting your extra special day at The Regions Tower next year! Y’all rock!
