Carmel Ritz Charles Romantic Blush + Mixed Metals Summer Wedding // Kelsey & Drew
“I surrender who I’ve been for who you are. Nothing makes me stronger than your fragile heart.” // Sleeping At Last
Last weekend I had the fortune of spending my Saturday with two extraordinarily fun, loving, silly, and amazing people. Kelsey + Drew’s romantic blush, silver, and gold wedding at The Ritz Charles in Carmel was an absolute blast. It was a hot day in late June in Indiana, so it was also a sweaty day, but we made it all work. (Find all the shade!)
If you never had a chance to read Kelsey + Drew’s engagement session blog post, I definitely urge you to check it out. Not only was their engagement session super colorful and fun but their story of how they came together was also pretty great. These two musicians came together in December of 2013 and then got engaged the following December were definitely made for each other. Balancing each other out and bringing light to all those around them. It definitely made spending their special day with them even more special. I had so much fun working with them!
From a bright and sunny first look at West Park in Carmel, to beautiful portraits with their fun wedding party by a big shady tree, to a touching ceremony, to beautiful toasts and first dances, ending the evening in dancing and a cloud of confetti to say I left their wedding with my heart full is an understatement, it was overflowing.
Kelsey’s blush, nude, and gold details was definitely in my favorite color palette. Don’t worry, I love me some color but when your details are neutral and gold and they just blend with everything it just makes my photographer heart sing!
Kelsey’s makeup artist, Allison Zwickell, did an amazing job on her makeup. Granted the canvas was pretty darn good to start with but seriously. #MakeupGoals. Kelsey looked flippin’ flawless when she was done!
Being surrounded by your sisters while you get ready for your big day sounds like the perfect way to spend your morning. Kelsey’s bridesmaids consisted of her three sisters and Drew’s two sisters. Kelsey’s sisters Chandler and Tiffany helped her get dressed into her stunning W-Too dress from Bride’s By Young. Seriously, I want this dress so I can feel pretty while I edit. I have no use for a dress like this, but if I ever have another wedding I will be wearing a dress like this one!
After Kelsey finished getting dressed her bridesmaids stayed behind at the hotel and finished with getting ready while her and I traveled to West Park for her first look with Drew. Boy, the two of them were such troopers. It was 3pm on a 90 degree sunny June day. Not a cloud in the sky. Which is great for the pool, but no so much when you’re having your photos taken in a big ol’ dress and a tux! They toughed it out for a gorgeous first look by the water and then more lovely photos throughout the park. Troopers I tell ya!
After we made our way back to The Ritz Charles we kept cool by staying under the shaded porch of the chapel and captured some pretty amazing photos.
Okay, let me just speak for a brief moment on this amazing bouquet by April Sheedy of Shadeland Flower Shop. Seriously, those peonies?! I die.
And remember when I said Kelsey looked flawless?! Well even after sweatin’ like crazy in the sun at West Park her hair by Kiss Kiss Bang Bang Salon and her makeup were still on point.
Once the wedding party showed up we made our way to a big shady tree and got the whole gang together. Let me just say, these flowers girls and the ring bearer looked AB-SO-LUTE-LY ADORABLE! Oh my goodness! The cuteness level was over the top! Stephanie could not stop photographing them because she loved them so much! Haha!
Kelsey and all of her gals.
Look at this group!
Drew and his gents. (These guys are killin’ me with this walking photo!)
One of my favorite things to do with wedding parties is tell them for just one photo to GO. WILD. I tell them to keep it pretty tame. Family appropriate. But definitely have fun. This group did no disappoint.
Also, if you haven’t noticed by now, you will by the end of this blog post. Drew makes the most amazing faces. I like to consider myself a collector of silly faces. And Drew is pretty amazing at them!
This chapel... for days. The bride’s mom decorated the ceremony space and her dad made the arbor as well. This dang ceremony space looked absolutely stunning. Everything about it was gorgeous!
The ceremony was a touching ceremony with fun stories and a different little spin on vows. I really enjoyed listening to it. But my favorite photos of the bride and groom from ceremonies is when they’re walking out of their ceremony, they just had their kiss, they just tied the knot, and now they’re walking back up the aisle looking at all of their friends and family and it’s just smiles everywhere. That my friends, is pure happiness and joy.
Kelsey’s mom had a big part in decorating the reception space as well. Everything looked gorgeous there as well. From floral arrangements hanging from the lights above the tables, to the uplighting, the cake... everything. It looked wonderful and set a beautiful stage for the festivities of the evening!
The reception started off with Kelsey’s dad giving a welcome speech to all of the guests. It was a touching speech and there were definitely some tears shed. He even played some of the songs that Kelsey and Drew have written and sang together in their band, Milo. It was really a lovely speech and a wonderful way to kick off the evening.
After dinner the bride’s sister and the groom’s best friend gave speeches as well. More tears and more laughter were had.
Kelsey + Drew’s first dance to “Turning Page” by Sleeping At Last was definitely amazing and beautiful. First of all, the song had me feelin’ all the feels. But then when you look through your lens and your couple is dancing like this and you’re just like, “Gah! Guys! You’re gonna make me cry and I can’t take photos when I’m crying!” **Quickly Wipes A Tear**
Parent dances weren’t much better. After Kelsey and her dad’s sweet first dance Drew began his first dance with his mom. Out of no where Drew’s mom steps off the dance floor and everyone is thinking, “What the heck is going on?” It wasn’t until she brought Drew’s step-mom onto the dance floor where the three of them finished out the dance together. Needless to say Stephanie was a sobbing mess afterwards and I was welling up for sure! (I’m a sucker for the Mother/Son dance)
After all of the formal festivities the dance floor opened and the party started. Drew threw some of us killer silly looks at me.
Before the night ended; Kelsey, Drew, and I made our way outside for one last fun thing. I have two words for y’all...
Yes, confetti cannons. For days. I would photograph weddings with endless clouds of confetti surrounding my clients every. flipping. weekend. It was so much fun and so colorful. And y’all know I love me some color! It was perfect.
Thank you so much Kelsey + Drew for entrusting myself and my team to document your memories and be part of your super special day. It was an absolute blast and I wish I could do it all over again just to have fun with y’all again! I hope you enjoyed the day just as much as I did! I also hope you’re enjoying your wicked awesome honeymoon in Riviera Maya (jellllllllly)! Thank you both so much again. You both are amazing people!

Just checked out the pictures of the wedding and all i can say is W**O**W** !!!! they are fantastic and you did a fantastic job of capturing the love, joy and happiness of the day...I really felt like i was enjoying the wedding all over again.... How lucky they were to find you to take the pictures. Not all photographers are created equal and you are fantastic....
I really loved these wedding photos Jackie. This one might have to go down as my favorite to date. First, the wedding dress was beautiful. And those bridesmaid have wonderful gowns too. But it is the bride that really shined in thsee photos. Not sure it is possibly to take a bad picture of her but I feel you captured her and her beauty so well. Hats off to JSP for another amazing job.
