Building Confidence & Getting Inspired

“This is my fight song, take back my life song, prove I’m alright song... And I don’t care if anybody else believes, cause I’ve still got a lot of fight left in me.” // Rachel Platten

In all corners of the world there are people lacking confidence in the all sorts of different ways. We all struggle with confidence. And anyone who tells you otherwise is a liar (well at least in my opinion). In a world where all put our best selves forward on social media it’s hard to believe that some people are struggling with confidence or struggling at all. But I assure you they are.

2015 Favorite Images of the Year // Wedding Portraits

“Goin' to the chapel and we're, gonna get married.” // The Dixie Cups

The wedding day is a crazy day of fun. Mostly photojournalistic with moments and documentation but I do have time to create some portraits for people. Of the bride, the groom, the wedding party, all of the people involved. These are the chances I get to be creative with the people involved on the wedding day. I love working with real people which creates challeneges but that's the best part! Most of these photos are bride and groom individuals with a few wedding party photos that I just love. Let’s ch-ch-check them out!

2015 Favorite Images of the Year // Moments

“Life is all about moments of impact, and how they change our lives forever.” // The Vow

Moments are what make my job worth doing. If all I did was take pretty posed photos for people I would just feel like... "whooo look at this other photo I made." Instead I would rather come home and say, "WHOOO! LOOK AT THIS MOMENT I CAPTURED!" I love capturing fantastic memories for people and telling their story through carefully planned out portraits with their very unplanned moments. Moments are what makes this job the best. And I wouldn't trade it for anything. So, with that being said, let's get on to it!

2015 Favorite Images of the Year // Engagements

“If you like it then you should've put a ring on it.” // Beyoncé aka Queen Bey

We all know the immortal words of the ever wise Beyoncé. If you like it. Then you should put a ring on it. I’m happy to say that I get to photograph TONS of couples who have put a ring on it. And if they haven’t they’re still in awesome relationships regardless. Engagement sessions are so much fun and in my opinion extremely important. I get a chance to get to know you. You get a chance to get to know me. We get to talk, take pictures, hang out. And you walk away with awesome photos of you where you’re in normal people clothes and not a big white dress and a tux. It’s a win-win-win situation! I love love love engagement sessions because I have more time to be creative and create some awesome photos for people.

So, if you’ve been following my countdown, welcome back. And if not, welcome to the second installment. Let’s get right to it then, huh?

2015 Favorite Images of the Year // Details

It's all in the details my dear.

Isn’t it though? Well at least, it is for me! I am obsessed with details! Not just in weddings but everything! I can’t even go on a diet without a detailed menu, calendar, and shopping list. My clients would know too, because when I’m prepping for their wedding I have them fill out a very detailed questionnaire and I send over an extremely detailed timeline. Maybe I’m a control freak. I prefer being prepared. I know my clients spend hours upon days upon months planning for their wedding so that every little detail is taken care of. So that every little part of their wedding tells a little bit about them. That’s why detail photos are my favorite. Couples spend so much time planning for their wedding, I want to document those efforts in detail photos.

Ballet Inspired Indianapolis Mavris Arts & Events Center Wedding // Styled Session

“Take time to do what makes your soul happy.” // Unknown

Sometimes, I have to take a little time to do things that excite me most. Which is why I love doing styled shoots. Weddings are amazing, and I love my clients, but it’s extremely fun to have a concept in your brain, see it come to life, and then document it through a styled shoot. This year I’ve done three styled shoots. Earlier in the year I styled two bride and groom sessions my, “Boho Americana” Styled Shoot and the “Hippie Love” Styled Shoot. If you don’t know what a styled shoot is, it’s where various wedding industry professionals get together to create a style and/or concept for a wedding for creative and marketing purposes. They’re a great time to express my creativity and I really enjoy them so when Ooh La La Events contacted me to photograph their Ballet Styled Shoot I was definitely more than happy to hop on board!

Check out some of the wicked photos we captured thanks to our models and the amazing creative team that came together to make this photo shoot possible. Please check out the bottom of this blog post to see everyone who put in their time and effort to make this photo shoot possible!

Pendleton Falls Park Fishing Engagement Session // Kerri & Jonny

Two less fish in the lake.

There will be two less fish in the lake later this month when Kerri + Jonny tie the knot at The Barn at Hawk’s Point on September 20th. Despite their short engagement, the three of us found the time to get together and capture some photos of their love in honor of their engagement. Kerri and Jonny share and affinity for the outdoors, so it was only logical that we found a way to incorporate a few of their favorite past times into their engagement session. When Kerri told me they wanted to show off their love for fishing I just knew that we had to go to my favorite local park in Pendleton, Falls Park.

Rustic Chic Fishers Hawthorns Country Club Wedding // Ashley & Brent

GET READY FORE THIS RUSTIC, CORAL AND MINT WEDDING WITH DUAL MATRONS OF HONOR AND BEST MEN!

If you don’t know me by now, then please know I will never pass up a good opportunity for a cheesy pun. Thus the first line of Ashley + Brent’s blog post was graced with a glorious pun of cheesy proportions. And although, despite the heat, there was lots of laughter and fun throughout their beautiful wedding at The Hawthorn’s Golf and Country Club in Fishers, IN; their wedding was no joke at all. A gorgeous rustic chic day spilling with coral, mint, baby’s breath, mason jars, wooden crates, and burlap. PLUS, both Ashley and Brent had dual Matrons of Honor and Best Men. Standing by their side were Ashley’s two sisters Mandy and Annie and Brent had his twin brother, Blaine, and older brother, Jared.

Ashley + Brent’s story is somewhat of a funny one, between how they met and how he proposed it’s adorable and hilarious. As told by Ashley, Brent had been attending college in West Virginia, and even though he had noticed her in church when he came home for Father’s Day, she rushed out of church so quickly that day she didn’t even notice him! It wasn’t until she added him on Facebook when their relationship started to blossom. They didn’t even speak in person until Brent had driven five and a half hours to pick Ashley up for their first date.

When it came time to propose Brent had planned a wonderful date night at a local winery. He asked her a series of questions as if he was interviewing her. Ashley got somewhat upset and had mentioned that she was not there for an interview. Brent simply replied that she was interviewing to be his wife. After many more questions and some ups and downs throughout the dinner they decided to leave. Ashley had gotten a little upset because Brent hadn’t asked her when she expected it and she thought he wasn’t going to ask at all. But, in the parking lot on the way to car where they could be with just each other, Brent finally asked her if she would be his wife. Obviously she said yes and the rest is history!

Pendleton Falls Park Family Session // The Richman Family

A PICNIC BASKET OF JOY & DADDY’S LITTLE GIRL

What a better way to spend Father’s Day than having first birthday photos done of your sweet little girl with your beautiful wife?! Well that’s what the Richman’s did this year on Father’s Day. It was only natural that we met up since I photographed their Gender Reveal and their Maternity Photos last year! But this time Kim, James, and Layla met me at my favorite little park in Pendleton all the way from Chicago and we captured some of them with their sweet little girl the day after her birthday. Of course their adorable little pup Chester tagged along too! It was hot, humid, and muggy but we made it out alive without a baby that was too cranky! I call this session a win!

Bright & Classic Indiana State Museum Wedding // Libby & Dave

A STATEMENT OF LOVE IN INDIANAPOLIS...

When Libby first “smiled” at Dave through eHarmony, neither of them knew that two years later they would be walking down the aisle together at the Indiana State Museum along the canal gathered by 70 of their closest family and friends. But after several adventurous dinners, beer tastings, and adopting three pets together the day finally came when Dave proposed to Libby. After a long day of working in the yard they walked to a local wine shop to sip some wine and enjoy their evening together. Dave tried to get Libby to extend their walk and go to a nearby fountain, but Libby not knowing Dave was trying to propose refused and wanted to get started walking home before it got too late. After they arrived home Dave couldn’t wait any longer and proposed to her right there in their kitchen. Which, personally, I find absolutely the cutest.

I think Dave’s proposal and their personalities showed that their intimate wedding was absolutely perfect for the two of them. It was definitely obvious that Libby + Dave both wanted to have a fun and relaxing day, and I am certain this was achieved. Ending the night with a super fun sparkler exit and leaving in a vintage Cadillac definitely was the cherry on top of a super sweet night!

Hippie Love // Styled Shoot

"All good things are wild & free." // Henry David Thoreau

This year I have definitely been obsessed with the boho/hippie look that has taken over wedding fashion! Which makes sense because I love vintage styles specifically the 40’s/50’s era and the 60’s/70’s era. I wanted to do a little styled shoot with a flower crown and a short, flowy, hippie dress. When my friends Lisa + Tyler offered up their time to take some photos for me they definitely did not disappoint and they brought the magic with them! With florals provided by Courtney at Violets Are Blue Floral Design and hair and makeup provided by my ever amazing Ashley Huse we created some purely wild and free photos.

Brebeuf Jesuit High School Sweethearts Engagement Session // Brittany & Cody

FOOTBALL FIELDS AND PIGGY BACK RIDES, IT'S HIGH SCHOOL SWEETHEART TIME.

They met in their freshman year of high school at Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory School in Indianapolis during orientation, Spanish class to be exact. In a pre-cell phone era, Cody asked Brittany for her AIM Instant Messenger name that day. Cody played football and while Brittany was attended a game with her friends Cody met her in the bleachers to “ask her out.”

They started dating September 1st, 2006 but it was their family cruise during Christmas 2014 where Cody created an elaborate plan to propose to Brittany. By setting up a speaker playing their favorite song, Jack Johnson’s “Better Together”, along with a box full of pictures and a note telling her to put on a fancy dress and meet her parents in the atrium. She quickly found more family members with more notes he had written letters for each member of their families with different memories they shared. Through a scavenger hunt type adventure she finally reached the final letter telling her to him on the top deck of the ship where he proposed with the sun setting!

Boho Americana // Styled Shoot

"Ask her what she craved and she'd get a little frantic about things like books, the woods, music. Plants and the seasons. Also freedom." // Charles Frazier

In honor of Independence Day for our dear country I am sharing this fun styled shoot I did a little over a month ago. I can come up with this idea that I wanted to photograph an Americana wedding shoot, but every Americana styled shoot I had seen was very vintage in the 1940's/1950's style. Which makes sense. The United States went through a huge surge of patriotism due to the second World War. But, being myself, I wanted to photograph it in a different way. The Americana look is definitely "in" right now. You can't walk through any clothing store without seeing something with red, white, blue and some stars plastered on it. Which is kind of cool. Yay America! So I wanted to blend this Americana trend and the current boho-hippie trend that's happening and throw it all into a wedding photo shoot. The result was an awesomely tatted up gal with her bearded fiancée with an American flag, an open field, and pure freedom.

Pink + Gold Palomino Ballroom Wedding // Rebecca & RJ

PINK PEONIES, A LIME-A-ZINE, AND THE MOST FUN WEDDING PARTY YOU'LL EVER SEE!

From the start of the day you could tell that Rebecca + RJ's goal was to have an absolute blast on their wedding day! Upon walking into Rebecca + RJ's home I was thrusted upon a group of gals that were getting prepared to watch their best friend, sister-in-law, aunt, or daughter walk down the aisle and be united with her most perfect partner. Everyone was having a blast, playing music, dancing, and getting ready. Right then I knew, "Today is going to be so much fun." And the day did not disappoint. With as big of a wedding party as they had, a Lime-A-Zine to transport everyone, and drinks all around for everyone it was a great time.

Rebecca + RJ definitely share a commonality of having a great time. It's apparent by the friends and family that surround them. They both love sports. And word on the street, Rebecca has an unhealthy addiction to them. They love to travel and take adventures. Rebecca + RJ definitely seem like each other's puzzle piece. It was such an honor to see them come together for their perfect fit on a lovely Saturday in June at the St. Louis de Montfort Church and the fun didn't end until late in the evening at The Palomino Ballroom.

Indiana Historical Society Colorful Brunch Wedding // Stephanie & Alan

BRUNCH, MIMOSAS, PAPER CRANES, PINK HAIR, AND CARDS AGAINST HUMANITY

Stephanie + Alan had all of the makings for a perfectly awesome offbeat wedding when they got hitched in a short but sweet ceremony at the Indiana Historical Society. They decided early on they didn't want a traditional wedding and that what they really wanted was friends and family to gather with them while they tied the knot and then eat some breakfast!

Stephanie and Alan decided that with their wedding day they were going to ditch all of the things they hated about weddings as guests and make a day that's completely their own. Intimate guest lists? Sure! Walking each other down the aisle?! Heck yeah! No formal reception festivities? Why not?! Their day was sweet and simple and I really felt it fit their personalities. It was pretty great. Plus, did I mention... brunch?!

Adventures In Time & Space Outdoor Geek Wedding // Haly & Wes

DR. WHO, STAR WARS, AND VIKING WEAPONRY.

All the things you need for an awesomely geeky wedding at an old ski lodge! Haly + Wes made a promise to love each other at his mom's property surrounded by family, friends, some horses, a baby goat, and maybe a little bit of rain.

Haly + Wes met through the sci-fi convention scene due to many mutual friends and a mutual love for all things geeky. From the minute they met it was a perfect match. It's said that everyone has a person and they are each other's person. Once they finally were engaged there was no doubt that their personalities and their love of sci-fi would make it into the wedding. From every wedding party member having a viking or medieval weapon to having a "cookie bearer," because, "Come to the dark side, we have cookies." This wedding was personally, 100% them.

Although it rained all morning and even into the early afternoon they didn't let it get them down. Mother Nature let up just before it was time for pictures and we were able to work out some pretty awesome photos for them! I was so happy to be part of their day!

Downtown Indianapolis Central Library Engagement // Lindsey & Eric

HISTORIC LIBRARIES, SUNSET ON ROOFTOPS, AND THE GREAT CIRCLE CITY

Upon discovering that Lindsey + Eric were going to utilize their common love of literature for their September 2015 wooded wedding I knew right away we had to photograph their engagement session in the Indianapolis Central Library. We had the greatest time walking around the amazing library and then downtown Indy. Only to finish up our session at the top of The Sheraton City Centre hotel at sunset.

While attending a band practice with her best friend, Lindsey saw Eric behind the drums the minute she walked in. In efforts to find any reason to talk to him they started playing with a rubber toy together. After they got to talking the two of them really started to hit it off. Eventually they started dating and meeting each other's families didn't come far after that. Then while going on a hike in Turkey Run they uttered the famous three words, "I love you." A year an a half later, on New Years Eve, they decided they were going to be hiking partners for life and set a date for a September wedding in the woods.

With the books, the sunset, and their love combined; a recipe for magic and amazing photos happened during their engagement session. I try to keep my blog posts to 10 - 15 photos but we were in the Central Library... it was hard to just pick 15... so I didn't. Whoops!

Downtown Indianapolis Mass Avenue Sunset Engagement // Jenny & John

THAT ONE TIME I FOUND MY SOUL SISTER AT AN ENGAGEMENT SESSION.

A couple Sunday's ago I had the distinct pleasure of walking around downtown Indianapolis at sunset with Jenny + John. Aside from enjoy the urban sites of our lovely city and capturing some pretty wicked photos; I think I made a new best friend. Both Jenny + John are so awesome but I'm pretty sure Jenny + I are cut from the same cloth. She's pretty incredible, I know why John is so in love with her.

Indianapolis Holliday Park Engagement // Molly & Brian

SPRING IN INDIANA...

Well it's not all beautiful flowers and tall green grass. Yes, that is definitely there. But there is also muddy creeks and rain. But then you get amazing people like Molly + Brian who are willing to trudge through the mud and may or may not slip and fall right before portraits begin. In. The. Mud. Yep. This happened folks. These people are legit. We had the best time walking around Holliday Park in search of greenery and all things spring. But first we happened upon this little island in the middle of the (not so) White River.
